Uniten Accolades


Uniten's Accolades: Best Performing Organizations Award from IAPQA






In 2010 after been conferred as the winner of the Quality Management Excellence Award and Prime Minister's Awards 2009(as shown in picture on the left and right), UNITEN has grabbed the opportunity to place itself again in the international eyes by participating in this prestigious award. Based on the report submitted and supporting report from Malaysia Productivity Corporation and Ministry of Trade and Industry, UNITEN proved it has all the credentials in providing high quality education and services.



In 22 June 2010, UNITEN has been awarded as the recipient of the Best Performing Organizations in the World in Education for the World Class Award (Highest) category on 18-20 September 2010 in Kathmandu, Nepal.  Can you imagine that? In the world! The award was given during the 16th APQO/ International Conference on Quality.


"We are pleased to announce that four organizations from Asia and the Pacific Rim are being recognized as exemplary companies of world class quality performance. They have achieved the International Asia Pacific Quality Award modeled after the U.S. Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Award", said Charles Aubrey, Chairman of APQO and the International Asia Pacific Quality Award Executive Committee.

About the Asia Pacific Quality Organization (APQO)
The APQO was founded and organized by National Quality Organizations in Asian and Pacific Rim countries including the American Society for Quality and was incorporated in the Philippines in 1985. It is a non-profit organization formed to be a primary mover for quality and continuous improvement for goods and services and quality of life in the Asia Pacific Region. APQO has several hundred National Quality Organizations (Core members), Corporate members, and Individual members.

UNITEN GENERATES PROFESSIONAL






University Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) Putrajaya campus offer many types of programs such as Undergraduates Programmes, Diploma Programmes, and Foundation. In this post I will talk about one of the Undergraduates Programmes which is Bachelor of Information Technology (Graphics & Multimedia)(Hons).




The College of Information Technology has designed a comprehensive and innovative information technology programme to meet the needs of the IT industry as well as the manufacturing and engineering sectors. Students who fullfill the academic requirements of the programme will receive the Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons)(Graphics & Multimedia) degree.

We are committed to delivering cutting-edge technologies in graphics and multimedia through teaching, research and consultancy.


Objective

1. To produce graduates with outstanding technical and authoring skills in the production of multimedia applications.

2. To deliver a solid understanding of the hardware and software aspects of digital image editing and manipulation, together with video editing and distribution, capturing, storing and manipulating sound and images in a digital form and selecting media.

3. To enable students to gain exposure to various design methodologies used in designing and modeling and use a range of multimedia creative tools to develop multimedia applications and present them effectively.

4. To ensure students are well acquainted with graphics, animation, and computer vision

5. To inspire students to excel in the field of computer modeling and to encourage improvisations and channeling of opinions in graphics and multimedia through a creative and unique thinking process.


Now, the Department of Graphics and Multimedia offers full-time undergraduate programmes leading to the award of Bachelor of Information Technology (Graphics and Multimedia)(Hons). Here are some of the main idea on how programme works:


Overview

1. Students will gain knowledge of industry-standard software packages for developing multimedia applications.

2. The course will give students the necessary practical skills needed to develop computer interfaces, and provides a sound knowledge of the technology used to deliver multimedia applications.

3. The course encourages students to engage with design for interface, design for interaction, design for information and other specialist issues relating to interactive multimedia.


4. Year 1 introduces the underlying Principles of programming, explores Web programming, Effective drawing, Multimedia technologies, Computer modeling and creativity and Advanced Programming.

5. During the 2nd year, and in addition to core Information Technology modules, the study will concentrate on Discrete structures. Human Computer Interaction, Introduction to Computer Graphics, Multimedia System & design, and Virtual Reality following an industrial placement (Special semester).

6. In the 3rd year (Final Year), and in addition to core Information Technology modules, the study will concentrate on Artificial Intelligence, Operating systems concepts & Image Processing & computer vision.

7. In addition to the above students may take an in-depth look at aspects of Game Design, Computer-Based Training & Development, Computer Animation, Simulation and Audio & Video Technology as elective subjects. Students will also undertake an individual project investigating an application of graphics or multimedia technology.

8. The combination of all the modules above will help students gain a solid understanding of the hardware and software aspects of capturing, storing and manipulating sound and images in a digital form. Students will explore the techniques involved in producing their own creative digital media. Digital image editing and manipulation, together with video editing and distribution are also examined.
